    As you already know from my previous post How to Use Fill Opacity in Photoshop there are some differences between Opacity and Fill sliders in Photoshop, unfortunately we do not have Fill slider in Illustrator. This doesn’t mean you can not simulate effect similar to what Photoshop have to offer. In this tutorial I will guide you through steps how to simulate fill opacity with type but you can use same technic and with shapes.     InDesign is very smart software and knows math by the way. It performs mathematical operations much faster then me (and probably you) without mistake. In particular InDesign allows you to add, subtract, divide or multiply any measurement unit on control panel when working with size, percent or position of shape, frame, text. Type any measurement unit W,H,X or Y fields in control panel Lets go to practical example. I have Rectangle 144 mm wide and 97 mm in height but I need to enlarge it for 10% in width only.     Sometimes is very easy to create perfect selection in Photoshop and other times you will need several hours or days depending on complexity and priority. There are so many ways to create selections which can be saved as Alpha channels. Sometimes selection requires multiple Alpha channels which will be combined later by adding, subtracting or intersecting them. Sounds complex? It is actually but there is a way to work with selection in multiple pases and to have only one Alpha channel  without to think what is saved on each channel and how to combine them in order to achieve desired result.
